Coming into contact with his half-brother, Zeke, Eren awoke to his Founding Titan abilities. That, along with his powers from the Attack Titan, Eren fell into a painful dilemma as he began to see the future. He chose to trigger the "Rumbling", which will destroy the entire world outside of Paradis Island.
